WHAT WE DO at The Running School Southend-on-Sea?

  • We can help you stay injury free
  • We can improve your running technique
  • We can increase your speed whatever your sport

At the heart of what we do is functional movement. The ability of the body to move efficiently is central to being able to perform at your best and stay injury free. Running is a skill and most people have not been taught how to run. Through our unique coaching methodology we have developed the ability to help individuals of all levels and from all sports.

Based on your objectives and what you are trying to achieve, we use our coaching methodology, step-by-step coaching, guidance and motivation (and your hard work!) to help you achieve your goals. Another key function of The Running School Southend-on-Sea is helping people get back to full fitness after injury or surgery.

THE THREE STEPS:

Here is a video of a good level club runner who we worked with and what he had to say about us:

“I started the Run School program just after Christmas 2014 with Alastair. Initially thinking I was a reasonable runner with good form after running since October 2011. How wrong was I! After being filmed from the side and back I could see that form was actually pretty bad, rolling shoulders, no rear foot lift and just awkward.

Alastair set to work with a structured program of technique, stretching, motion and running technique changes. Each session was filmed and a comparison made, at the end of the program I was no Mo Farah but technique was improved, stronger and more efficient.

I always treat these things with the old saying ‘Proof is in the pudding’ 25 seconds off 5K time, 3 minutes off half marathon, 7 minutes of 20 miles and a target now of 15 minutes off full marathon. My running is now stronger and efficient and injury free, I would highly recommend the program to all abilities.”

“I have now completed 7 sessions with the Running School.  I have been very pleased with the attention given to me by Alastair.

I have had a few injury problems but these now seem to be resolved and I am beginning to run much better than previously.  The sessions were hard work but thorough .

I am looking forward to more years of injury free running.

Thank you”

“Just finished my 7 sessions at the Run School. I was pushed hard and exceeded expectation of what I thought I would be capable of.

The ‘before and after’ video showed a real difference in technique but the real difference has been in feeling so much more comfortable when I’m running.

I’m of pensionable age and run a maximum of 5k so I’m not a ‘serious’ runner. Being injury-free, however, is serious to me, and I now know how to protect my joints.

Thank you Alastair. It was hard work, but worth it!”

Eirian Gooch, Ocober 2015
